Chemical recycling of cellulosic textile waste

Chemical recycling of cellulosic textile waste

Re:newcell has developed a solution to enable recycling of cotton and viscose fibers used in apparel. The solution works by collection of used garments, which is transformed to a biodegradable pulp to be used as feedstock for production of clothes. Utilizing usable material that would otherwise end up on landfills allows the apparel industry to save several thousand liters of water per kilo apparel and prevents chemicals and dyes from entering local biological systems, all while reducing the carbon footprint of the industry.

Digitalization of mechanical circuit breakers

Digitalization of mechanical circuit breakers

BLIXT Solid State Circuit Breakers are formed by digitizing the conventional mechanical circuit breakers. BLIXT plugs a brain into home electricity network. The new BLIXT Breaker is the market’s first solid state, fully digital, residential circuit breaker that can provide sub metering data for dynamic pricing, demand response, and remotely control all loads with ability to modulate the power from 0-100%. The innovation enhances the performance of renewable solutions, battery storage systems, and demand-side management, while also enabling many other new applications at the grid edge.

Recovery of waste air in food-producing buildings

Recovery of waste air in food-producing buildings

Due to the problematic nature of waste air from food-producing buildings, such as restaurants, the ventures tend to not recover any of the high-potential air resulting from the cooking processes. As such, large amount of energy is wasted. With this is mind, Enjay has developed a solution for reusing waste energy. It works by collecting the unwanted particles (high amounts of fat and soot), while also reusing the high-potential air stream for energy. This can then be applied locally for a range of uses such as heating of spaces and water, thus saving users money while decreasing their environmental impact.

Stronger concrete with less cement

Stronger concrete with less cement

Cement production accounts for 6–8 % of global CO₂ emissions. Thus, changing the way concrete is produced is very important in abating climate change. Strongcrete technology better controls the concrete casting process and gives the concrete an improved compaction, making it possible to reduce the cement in the concrete mix by 20% and at the same time improve the quality of the concrete. The innovation also includes a remotely controlled robot that travels over the surface of the soft concrete, which delivers a stronger, flatter and tighter concrete surface thereby reducing very common problems like surface cracks as well as enables better bonding.

AI-based platform for smart driving

AI-based platform for smart driving

Greater Than’s platform can reduce fuel consumption and increase driver awareness through driving data analysis. Customers insert an on-board diagnostic module into the USB port of their car. This is synced to the driver’s smart phone and information is fed to the cloud. Based on how the driver performs, the innovation, called Enerfy Driving, gives low-risk or high-risk scores. Low-risk drivers are those that drive generating the least amount of environmental impact. The technology processes large amounts of driving data, algorithms performing risk assessment are built on machine learning and generate data in real time.

Renewable gas for industrial process heat

Renewable gas for industrial process heat

Meva Energy provides modularized and pre-manufactured turn-key gasification systems to generate renewable industrial gas or power based on small fraction fuels. The technology converts solid biomass to renewable biogas or to combined heat and power (CHP). The plant technology offers a small-scale decentralized and circular energy system which enables gas or CHP production with very high efficiencies and a minimum of distribution and parasitic losses. The innovation was created with the intention of improving air quality, reducing fossil fuel-based emissions, improve soil quality as well as to inspire and promote renewable and circular solutions.

Building energy automation

Building energy automation

Nordomatic provides solutions for building automation focusing on “smart buildings” and energy efficiency in larger properties. The concept is based on an approach towards heating, cooling and ventilation, which is referred to as ‘brilliant energy building automation.’ The concept entails utilising all the surplus energy which is generated in a building but often not utilised. The concept takes into account the property’s shell, giving each property a unique thermal inertia, which is utilised through optimised control.

Solar steam for industrial processes

Solar steam for industrial processes

Solatom is a solar concentrator designed for generating high temperature heat (steam, hot water or thermal oil) in industrial processes. Solatom's modules are formed by rows of mirrors that track the sun, reflecting the sunlight on a vacuum tube. The fluid circulating through the tube absorbs the reflected energy producing an increase in the temperature of the fluid (up to 300 °C). Each module has a nominal power of 15 kW thermal. When more capacity is needed, the modules are joined together, increasing the total power of the plant. The system is designed for be deployed on the rooftop, with a specific weight under 23 kg/m².

Data on greenhouse gas emissions in the food industry

Data on greenhouse gas emissions in the food industry

The food industry is responsible for 20-25% of the total GHG emission. CarbonCloud AB has developed services which is intended help food producers and restaurants to reduce their mark on the environment by providing up-to-date emissions data for the individual food producers’ products. The services are created both to help chefs and other executives to understand their products impact, but also to enable their customers to make environmentally friendly decisions. All of this is done using an app which performs all the calculations for the food providers. It also includes a calendar and automatic data updates.
