Traditionally, industries use electricity, high speed diesel or furnace oil to achieve process heat temperatures ranging from 70 to 120 °C. Aspiration Energy has developed a solution to meet low and mid temperature process heat demand through decentralized energy generation based on a solar thermal system. Although solar collectors generally heat up to about 70°C, Aspiration’s innovations in fluid pressure, as well as system and module design, have been able to achieve temperatures of up to 120 °C.

Current CSP-T plants use molten salts as heat transfer fluid (HTF) and storage medium, reaching temperatures up to 560 °C. This is only profitable at very large scales due to the high investment required. In this project the CSP-T plant uses air as HTF, which can easily exceed 1000 °C. The heat storage medium is copper slag, a Chilean mining industry by-product (low cost), with ideal heat storage properties up to 1,000 °C.

Doubling biopower plant electrical efficiency

Today's established technology for bio power is the steam cycle, in which 30 percent of the energy input results in electricity, the remainder being heat and energy losses. Bio power plants are therefore primarily heating plants and, secondly, producers of electricity. Phoenix Biopower's technology has a completely different thermodynamic process. The first step is that the fuel is gasified under high pressure together with steam. The gas formed then drives a gas turbine where steam is used to optimize combustion. With this technology, efficiency is doubled, and electricity can be produced with up to 60 percent of the energy input.
