Swedish Algae Factory cultivates their own algae, based on a circular economic mindset where carbon dioxide, nitrogen and phosphorus emissions are converted into valuable products. Through a controlled algae bloom harmful emissions of nitrogen and phosphorus are prevented from entering into seas and oceans. In the process, water is cleaned and a shell material is produced that can be utilized for example to enhance the efficiency of solar panels, as a UV filter in sunscreens or for uptake and release of chemical substances in a variety of products. The organic biomass can for example be used as more sustainably produced feed and fertilizers.

As wind towers rise above 100 meters in height, transportation poses considerable problems given that base diameters for 100+ meter towers exceed 4.3 meters, the limit for transport width in most parts of the USA and the EU. Furthermore, conventional steel tower constructions get dramatically more expensive with height due to the increasing need for thicker walls. In order to make significant returns on wind technology investments, organizations will need to drastically improve both costs and efficiency.

Modvion´s patented module technology enables significantly decreased cost, efficient transportation and streamlined installation of towers exceeding 120 m. Ultimately, this results in increased cost efficiency in the harvesting of wind resources.

Materials innovation

Scaling reduces the heat transfer efficiency and therefore increases the overall energy consumption of the heat exchanger. Scaling enhances cost and energy consumption from exchange, cleaning, or replacement. 

SiOx has developed a coating solution that creates a very smooth and dense barrier that prevents the mineral growth formation on the heat transfer surface. The company says that the coating is very thin and will not inflict on the heat transfer coefficient. It consists only of silicon and oxygen and is non-toxic. The result is a heat exchanger that can operate at elevated temperatures, for much longer times, that requires a minimum of maintenance.
